Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 2+2 seating add daily usefulness?
Yes. For the first time in recent generations, the SL adds rear seats. They are best for children or shorter passengers, but the 2+2 layout also gives you a handy spot to secure luggage or bags behind the front seats on a weekend trip. See more on our 2026 SL Roadster research hub.

Why a fabric soft top instead of a folding metal hardtop?
The SL uses an insulated, acoustic Z-fold fabric soft top to cut weight and lower the center of gravity, which sharpens handling. It also folds compactly to preserve trunk space, and the multilayer design keeps the cabin quiet when the roof is up.

Will the central touchscreen wash out with the top down?
No. The 11.9-inch MBUX touchscreen sits on an electric actuator and tilts from 12 to 32 degrees, so you can angle it to cut glare when sunlight enters the open cabin. Full feature details are on the SL Roadster page at Mercedes-Benz USA.

Which SL models can I order at your Glendale showroom?
The full lineup: the rear-drive SL 43 with 416 horsepower, the V8-powered SL 55 and SL 63 with AMG® Performance 4MATIC® all-wheel drive, and the 805-horsepower SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE plug-in hybrid at the top.

How quickly does the soft top open and close?
The fabric top raises or lowers in about 15 seconds at speeds up to 37 mph, so you can drop the roof at a stoplight without waiting until you park.

Can I drive open-top in cool Wisconsin weather?
Yes. AIRSCARF® vents warm air around your neck and shoulders, AIRCAP® reduces cabin buffeting at speed, and available heated seats and steering wheel let you enjoy open-air driving well into spring and fall.

Is the SL usable in all-weather conditions?
The V8 SL 55, SL 63, and SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE add AMG® Performance 4MATIC® all-wheel drive for better grip on cool, damp, or lightly snowy roads, while the SL 43 stays rear-wheel drive and light. With proper tires, an SL is more usable across seasons than many sports cars.

How do I configure and order an SL Roadster?
Our team can build your SL to spec, place a factory order, and arrange delivery. You can start by reviewing in-stock configurations online or applying through our finance center before you visit.

Can I trade in my current vehicle?
Yes. Start a trade-in valuation online and apply that amount toward your SL Roadster, with estimated figures available before you come in.

What warranty comes with a new SL?
Every new SL Roadster is covered by a 48-month, 50,000-mile New-Vehicle Limited Warranty, and our team can review the details and available service plans before you buy.

What safety and driver-assistance features are available?
The SL offers a suite of driver-assistance systems, and you can review independent safety information for Mercedes-Benz models at the NHTSA website while our team covers the specifics for your build.

How do I schedule a test drive in Glendale?
Schedule online or contact our team to arrange a private test drive at our Glendale showroom, where you can compare trims and experience the soft top firsthand. You can also browse current SL Roadster inventory first.
